So what are the main differences between a normal switch and a light switch? For starters, as mentioned above, the Lite only works in portable mode (not compatible with the Switch docking station and does not support TV out) and is priced $100 less. There is no detachable Joy-Con controller, no stand, no HD rumble and no IR motion in the system. The Switch Lite is equipped with a dedicated D-Pad instead of individual buttons! The system is lighter than the original, weighing in at 0.61 pounds versus 0.88 pounds. The touch screen is smaller (5.5 inches) than the 6.2-inch touch screen. The overall dimensions are smaller than one would expect: 3.6 inches high, 8.2 inches long and 0.55 inches deep compared to the original, which is 4 inches high, 9.4 inches long and 0.55 inches deep. Battery life increases to 3-7 hours, compared to 2.5-6.5 hours for the original. Finally, the Switch Lite lets you play handheld-compatible games on its own, but you can still sync the wireless controller to play on the small screen, meaning you can still play multiplayer games.
Of course, the Switch Lite plays the same great games as the original. You can connect it wirelessly to other switching systems (up to 8 in total) and also access the internet. Watch the first video of the system in action:

The Nintendo Switch Lite will be released on September 20 at the suggested retail price of $199.99 and will be available in three different colors: yellow, gray, and turquoise.
The addition of the Nintendo Switch Lite to the lineup gives players more color and price options, said Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America. Consumers can now choose the system that best suits their favorite Nintendo Switch games.
The flagship Nintendo Switch was launched in March 2017 and features three different game modes: Play in TV Mode by connecting the system to the Nintendo Switch Dock, play together or participate in Table Mode by sharing Joy-Con controllers and play in Portable Mode. The system is equipped with grey Joy-Con controllers or red and blue neon Joy-Con controllers.
The Nintendo Switch Lite has built-in controls and is smaller than the flagship Nintendo Switch. It has no stand and as a purely portable gaming device, it does not allow video output to the TV. Therefore, it does not come with a docking station or HDMI cable.
