You must have heard about Malta and why people love to live there. Besides the good weather and vibes, many know it’s good for business. Well, at least I do. Or, I know it’s great for gaming businesses. It’s all about the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) license.
Read on to find out more.
My Initial Curiosity About Malta’s Gaming License
If you do some research online, you’ll see that Malta’s gaming license is one of the ones that every gaming company wants. Well, at least every gaming company in Europe. It governs mobile casinos online, standard online casinos, casinos, and standard gaming-like consoles – it does everything. Is it easy to get one? It doesn’t seem like it, from my research, but I can see why the credibility it brings would make brands want one.
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) license emerged as a recurring theme in gaming licensing discussions online. There were others, but in Europe, this seems like the best one.
If I were setting up a gaming company, I’d want to do it in Malta. Plus, it looks like the place I’d want to live.
The Benefits: Beyond Tax Incentives
We’ll talk about the tax benefits further along. I do think tax is one of the best benefits, but there’s more to it.
The island is an excellent place for innovation, collaboration, and growth – a lot of new businesses go there for that reason. There are tons of business events hosted there and tons of massive gaming companies registered there. The only reason these companies are there can’t be for the tax benefits, can it?
The MGA License’s Appeal
So, what’s the real appeal of MGA licensed casinos? I found an authority that commanded respect and trust across the global gaming industry. There’s so much credibility that comes with having the MGA stamp.
The licensing process, however, is definitely rigorous. I found different reports of the process, but some of the criteria include:
● A robust infrastructure
● The company must register in Malta
● Safety and fraud protection
● Fair Gaming
● Availability of sufficient capital
There are more, but the list of criteria to meet is extensive. I like it. I might not like it if I’m trying to get approval, but as a player, I like how thorough it is.
Understanding the Tax Efficiency Advantage
Of course, I have to talk about tax efficiency in more detail. It seems like everyone is bothered about taxes at the minute – probably because it seems to be increasing. And I had first heard about the tax benefits in Malta. I don’t understand how a country could offer such low tax rates when I pay so much.
The 35% corporate tax rate Malta imposes doesn’t tell the entire story. That seems expensive, but it isn’t. There’s a unique system of refunds and incentives. Gaming companies can see this rate reduced to as low as 5%. Compared to other countries, that low-tax fee is insane.
I think this incredible advantage is probably the only reason why gaming companies would want to register their company in Malta and get the stamp of approval.
How Licensing in Malta Supports Business Growth
I think getting a license from Malta supports business growth. For one, it makes a gaming brand more reputable. Not everyone looks at gaming licenses (I don’t always), but I know how essential they are to regulate the industry. A brand is far more reputable with the Malta stamp of approval.
The Maltese government has created an environment encouraging innovation and growth. It offers stability and support crucial for any business. Not every country will do that.
Being licensed in Malta also opens doors. Brands can network, meet service providers, and find a talent pool with specialized gaming expertise. I’ve seen some good gaming conferences in Malta as well, one of them being the Casino Beats Summit.
Why Malta Stands Out
In my quest to understand why Malta is the go-to destination for gaming firms, I discovered that the MGA license is more than a regulatory stamp of approval – it’s a mark of excellence and reliability in the global gaming industry. Malta’s strategic approach to gaming regulation, blending strict oversight with business-friendly policies, sets it apart.
I like the country’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for gaming businesses. The regulatory framework, tax incentives, and supportive ecosystem are some of the best in the world. Malta doesn’t just offer a place to set up shop. It offers a partnership. Countries like America would never do this.
I love Malta. It’s a great place to visit and an even better location for business. It’s not quite becoming a Monaco resident tax-free for business, but it’s still good. Interestingly, in 2022, there was a 1.7% increase in businesses registering in Malta – I thought it would be more than that.
