Welcome to another Quickblog, as we’ve done for Diablo II: Ultimate Evil Edition. This time we’ll talk about the game’s early access now that it’s officially released and gone open beta. We’ll also talk about the upcoming open beta for Diablo III: Eternal Collection and the latest news from Blizzard.
Blizzard has announced that Diablo II’s “Resurrected” early access phase will officially begin on May 4, the same day as the release of the latest expansion to the action/RPG, Reaper of Souls.
While Blizzard Entertainment has yet to officially confirm when Diablo III will hit its late 2012 release date, the game’s new content is still getting added. The latest update is the addition of more playable classes (two more) to the game, as well as the inclusion of a new Act 3. And now, Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that the game will be getting an open beta test before its release.

The remastered edition of Blizzard’s 2000 hack-and-slash classic Diablo II: Resurrected won’t be published until September 24, 2021 at the earliest, but it will be accessible to test early as part of an Early Access and Open Beta program. Blizzard recently announced the start time and eligibility criteria for these testing.
Diablo II: Resurrected’s Early Access phase will begin on Friday, August 13 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, according to Blizzard’s post. Anyone who has bought Diablo II: Resurrected or Diablo Prime Evil Collection for the PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, or PlayStation 4 may participate in Early Access. On August 11, players will be able to pre-load the game two days early.
The Early Access phase for Diablo II: Resurrected will expire on August 17 at 10:00 a.m. (PDT), but an Open Beta will follow. This test will begin on Friday, August 20 and will be available to anybody interested in trying out the game on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. PC players will be able to pre-load the Open Beta on Wednesday, August 18 through Battle.net, while console players will be able to do so one day earlier on Tuesday, August 17 via the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store.
Diablo II: Resurrected’s beta will contain “the entire narrative experience of the game, as well as the narrative material of the expansion, Lord of Destruction,” according to the FAQ. The Amazon, Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid, and Paladin will all be playable classes.
During the Early Access Beta and Open Beta, Blizzard is enabling all players to capture, record, or broadcast the game.
Xbox Live Gold is needed to play during the Open Beta’s Early Unlock period and to access multiplayer features on Xbox platforms when they debut. It is not necessary to have Xbox Live Gold to participate in the Open Beta (non-Early Access) on Xbox platforms. PlayStation Plus is not needed to access multiplayer features during Early Access or the Open Beta, however it will be required when the game launches on PlayStation platforms.
