However, the reverse quality can be just as difficult.
Sometimes it’s exciting to watch a character approach his goal while the whole world tells him not to, but other times you’ll be screaming at the screen when the main character turns a simple situation into a big problem.
Yeah, we’re going to rank the most stubborn people in anime.
20. Aoi Tudou
Anime: Jujutsu Kaizen
This man plays by his own rules, and no one in the world can force him to change.
Except maybe a fat woman with a fat ass.
But if he decides he wants to fight, he will, no matter what his mission is.
And if he decides you’re his new best friend, you can’t say no. In fact, you better start making these bracelets while he’s still in a good mood.
While this makes him very charming, it also makes him the biggest wild card in the entire series, as you never know what his next target will be.
19. Nozomu Itoshiki
Anime: Sayonara, Zetsubu-sensei…
Before he could even walk, Zetsubu had decided that life was a waste. And he’s refused to see things differently ever since.
You’re so consistently depressed and pessimistic it’s almost admirable.
Even in the face of Kafuka, the optimistic saint, Zetsubu will find a reason to be depressed.
No matter how much you talk to him or make him feel loved, he has decided to hate life. And that will probably never change.
18. Katsuki Bakugou
Anime: My heroic academy
It’s not like Bakugu is the only character in the series who wants to be as big a hero as All Might.
But, man, he’s the most stubborn one in the business.
If you even dare to say you’ve gotten stronger while he’s within earshot, he’ll take it as a personal insult and yell at you for five minutes.
And don’t get me started on his relationship with Decu.
It took countless seasons for Bakugu to simply acknowledge that Deku was a hero, because he was so dead he called him a rock and nothing more.
17. Taiju Ooki
Anime: Dr. Stone.
Taiju is such a pacifist that, compared to him, Gandhi seems like a militant tyrant.
He doesn’t like to hurt others, and would rather die than throw a punch. And it’s not just a gamble – he’s literally already been put in that position.
When he was the only one standing between Tsukasa and his friends, Taiju just beat him up instead of using his powers to defend himself.
Even though this decision could have easily led to the murder of his friends, you have to have some sort of respect for his noble stubbornness.
16. Illumi Zoldik
Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)
Hunter x Hunter definitely has more than one stubborn character, especially when it comes to their quest for revenge.
But I chose Illumi because he will never let Killua go.
Even his father is lenient when it comes to Killua having friends. But Illumi doesn’t even want to hear it.
From outright blackmail to brainwashing, Illumi will do everything in his power to keep Killua on the path he deems most appropriate.
And no matter how many people tell him to let his brother live his own life, this man will probably never change.
15. Goku and Vegeta
Anime: Dragon Ball Z
It’s impossible to choose one or the other, because the Saiyajin race simply produces the most stubborn people to ever walk this planet.
When they turn to the enemy, God Himself cannot stop them in that struggle. No matter if their women scream at them, or if it could destroy Earth… If the Saiyajin want to fight, they will fight.
The same goes for training.
They could only stay fatherless because they wanted to do push-ups in space.
14. Inosuke Hashibra
Anime: Demon Slayer.
Inosuke wants only one thing in life: to prove that he is the strongest.
He likes to plunge from one fight into another, and generally avoids anything that might calm him down or allow him to heal.
His only saving grace is that he is so stubborn that he is easily manipulated.
If you present a task as a competition, Inosuke will not only do it without complaining, but he will give his all.
Fortunately for the team, Tangirow discovered this small error early on.
13. Megumin
Anime: KonoSuba
If Megumin wasn’t so incredibly stubborn, KonoSuba would be a completely different series.
Of the main roster, she is by far the strongest in offensive ability.
But she’s so determined to create the biggest tree possible that she refuses to choose intermediate level spells.
Not only does she insist on doing a huge kaboom (which she can only do once a day before passing out), but she refuses to go a day without doing something with a bong.
Honestly, if she had just set a spell of medium range, the main draw could have cleared a lot of dungeons easily.
12. Henry Lunge
Anime: Monster
It’s no secret that this guy is a workaholic.
He is very happy and proud of his work and refuses to leave a case unsolved.
But that last one showed that he was a stubborn jerk.
Once he had decided that Tenma was a criminal, the man simply ignored all evidence to the contrary and twisted everything he found out to fit his story.
In fact, his stubbornness almost killed him at one point, because he simply refused to admit his mistake.
Not to mention losing his family in this crazy race.
11. Narberal Gamma
Anime: Sir, I want to thank you for your support.
Superficially, Narberal is pretty cool.
She is a combative servant who listens to no one but Einz and can get what she wants in any situation.
But she’s so stubborn when it comes to hating people, it’s unrealistic.
She could meet the nicest man on earth and she would still call him a bug and ask permission to kill him. Although she can contain her hatred to a degree when Einz is around, we all know she has no intention of changing her mind.
10. Roswell L. Mathers
Anime: Re : Zero
Rozvaal is a cunning manipulator, so I’ll have to give spoilers here.
The man seemed a little goofy and strong at first, but nothing more.
But later we will learn that he, like many of the main antagonists, is possessed by the Echidna.
And all he had done so far was to bring her back to life. Even when the actors learn of his plans and even try to thwart them, Roswaal continues to pursue his own goals and pays no attention to what others think.
9. Seiya Ryuuguin
Anime: Cautious Hero: The character is old-fashioned, but overly cautious.
Even though we got an explanation for Seyi’s foolish caution at the end of the series, the man is still ridiculous.
As the name implies, it’s overloaded. But extremely careful with everything.
Even when people beg him to stop while he blows up a village to defeat a low-level slimeball, he just shrugs.
And if he has even the slightest fear of losing, he will go on from there, no matter how strong his allies are.
8. Hon Yeager
Anime: Attack on Titan.
In the beginning of the series, Eren was probably the most stubborn character I’ve ever seen.
His blind rage towards the Titans was so strong that he was willing to attack entire hordes, despite years of training that told him not to.
He was so determined to kill the Titans that he didn’t want to consider that he might not be strong enough to do it on his own.
He nuances himself a bit later, but as last season’s opener showed us, he’s still very selfish and stubborn when it comes to achieving what he sees as a just goal.
7. Eris Boreas Greirat
Anime: Mushokyu Tensei: The reincarnation of the unemployed
This is somewhat forgivable because she’s just a spoiled brat.
But the guy shoots through my head when I’m dealing with her.
She is so stubborn in her unwillingness to learn that they had to knock her teeth out before she admitted that maybe she needed some more practice.
And even then she kept getting out of the way because she just wasn’t interested in studying and thought it was pointless.
If it weren’t for Rudeus’ master class, she would never have learned anything that didn’t involve a sword and/or fist.
6. Seru Murderous
Anime: Akame ga Kill!
Sereu has a very deadly and poisonous combination: Stubbornness and borderline delusion.
She is so determined to be the good guy that she ignores all the obvious signs that she is no different than her enemy.
She constantly says they are killers, while she herself has no problem killing people in the most brutal way.
There is no trial, no chance of redemption. It’s just being done on the spot.
So the fact that she could stay on her high horse until the end was almost to be applauded.
5. Motoyasu Kitamura
Anime: Rise of the Hero of the Shield
The sheer royal stubbornness is terrifying.
This man was so determined to defend his queen and take her words as gospel that Naofumi himself could resurrect Jesus Christ and Motoyasu would still think he was the bad guy.
I understand she played her cards right.
But at least the other two heroes started asking questions while Motoyasu lay dying on that hill.
Because admitting you’re wrong isn’t manly or anything, who knows.
4. Erina Nakiri
Anime: The food of war!
Despite the fact that Erina is called the tongue of God, that same tongue really likes to weave lies when it suits her.
Especially when it comes to Soum and his kitchen.
Despite the fact that he has repeatedly demonstrated exceptional abilities and even softened her up in the food wars, she stubbornly insists that he is worthless.
And, of course, the fact that she’s a little stubborn makes her sexy. But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s a sore loser.
3. Laurent Thierry
Anime: The Great Pretender
In my opinion, it’s a curse to know this man.
He’s the kind of guy who throws himself into his big projects or adventures and doesn’t care how the people around him feel.
My cat Makoto wanted to go out so often and Laurent only brought him back to his paws.
Because he’s too stubborn to call it a loss and move on.
And of course, it was all presented in the form of a 300 IQ chart. But at the end of the day, this is a manipulative person who has too much time on his hands and doesn’t want to leave.
2. Thorfinn
Anime: The Vinland Saga
Thorfinn is another case of a combination of revenge and stubbornness. I understand that he was traumatized by seeing his father die before his eyes, but no normal person would have gone that far.
He followed the killer for years, worked for him, acted almost like his son, and killed dozens (if not hundreds) of soldiers.
Just for the chance to meet the killer in battle.
And when he inevitably lost in 1 vs 1, he did it again.
Man will not take no for an answer.
1. Naruto
Anime: Naruto
This shouldn’t surprise anyone, but Naruto is the king of stubbornness.
From how he pretended to be the Hokage while literally being the worst at everything, to his stubborn pursuit of Sasuke, this guy’s path as a ninja doesn’t really change.
I can’t emphasize Sasuke’s role in particular enough.
We’re talking about a guy who looked like an S-class threat to the village, and Naruto still refused to acknowledge that he needed to be taken out of the way.
And that mentality, which I know is good deep down, goes beyond Sasuke.
Naruto’s Tok-no-Jutsu is the foundation of the entire anime, as he refuses to condemn even the most bloodthirsty killer.
