How to find the oldest child
Unlike Eiktir, you cannot locate the Elder at first. You will need to find a rune similar to the one you used to find Eiktir’s location. It will spawn somewhere random in the Black Forest, just like his actual location. Once you find it, interact with the bank, and Eiktir’s location will appear on your map. Anyone who wants to know the Elder’s location must interact with the gem. Expect to see some Greyward running around.
Calling an Elder
After you find the runic stone that indicates the location of the old ones, you need to find the old seeds. They fall from Greidwarf Brutes and Shamans. These Greidwarf variants are much larger than the standard variants. These beasts have a strong melee attack and are very difficult to fight. Shamans release a cloud of poison in front of them that can do damage over time, and they release a healing cloud on the other Grey Dwarves around them during combat. When you see a shaman, you usually want to go after him first.
How to defeat the Elder
The Ancient is a large creature that looks like Groot and roams wherever you have summoned him. He has three attacks that you must be alert to. Two of them are within range. The first and most common attack is when he sends tangled vines to your position and chases you from a distance. Usually you want to be behind a tree or near one of the large poles where you summon the blanket.
During the second attack, the Elder summons the roots that grow from the ground and surround you. The roots burst and try to hit you. Usually you want to leave the place after being hit by the roots, and they will disappear after a while, so it is better to run away than to fight them.
The third attack is a melee attack, where the Elder lifts a foot off the ground and hits you. To perform a melee attack, you must be normally within melee range. We strongly recommend that you never enter a melee fight, as the foot is very powerful and can usually take you from health to zero, even if you are wearing troll armor.
To fight the Ancients, we could keep him at bay. We used fire and normal wooden arrows that reduce their health over time. We fought in pairs, and the Elder switched the character he aimed his attacks at, so the other could take a few hits before the Elder turned to attack them. The Elder has very little passive healing, so we strongly recommend making multiple Flares so that passive healing has no effect.
Once you defeat the Elder, he gives you his trophy, which you can take back to the starting point, as well as the key to the swamp.
