AMD has released a new update for the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition driver which should improve performance for RX 6600-series GPUs.
After much anticipation, AMD is finally releasing a new driver version for the Radeon RX 6600 series—and this one is an important release for gamers. By all accounts, Adrenalin 21.8.1 brings performance improvements for the RX 6600 / 6800 Polaris series, but it’s also packed with new features, some of which are disabled by default.. The Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.8.1 driver from AMD has been published.
The new driver includes support for Red Team’s latest graphics card, the Radeon RX 6600 XT, which will be on sale tomorrow, August 11, 2021, for $379.
The latest Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.8.1 driver from AMD also fixes a bug in Bloober Games’ psychological horror game The Medium. Players that launched the game while using NVIDIA’s FrameView, an app for monitoring frame rates, frame times, power, and performance-per-watt of graphics cards, may have experienced crashes. With the most recent driver, that problem should be resolved.

Issues that have been identified
- The auto update function on Ryzen Master may stop working if you upgrade to the newest Radeon graphics driver. Manually updating Ryzen Master is a temporary solution.
- On certain AMD Graphics devices, such as the Radeon RX 6600 XT, users may see corrupt light rays when playing Control with DirectX 12.
- Driver timeouts may be experienced while playing a game & streaming a video simultaneously on some AMD Graphics products such as Radeon RX 500 Series Graphics.
- When recording in the H265/HEVC codec on certain AMD Graphics devices, such as the Radeon RX 6800XT, users may have trouble terminating a recording session in Open Broadcaster Software.
- When playing certain DirectX 11 games, such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, with several monitors connected in extended mode, AMD Radeon Software may crash or become unusable.
- On certain AMD Graphics devices, such as the Radeon RX 6700 XT, playing Horizon Zero Dawn for a prolonged period of time may cause a driver timeout or a game crash.
- When activated on certain games and system settings, Enhanced Sync may result in a blank screen. As an interim solution, any users who are having problems with Enhanced Sync should deactivate it.
- On Radeon RX Vega series graphics devices, connecting two monitors with significant variations in resolution/refresh rates may create flickering.
- Extremely high and erroneous memory clock values may be reported by Radeon performance measurements and logging capabilities on occasion.
Known Issues with AMD Link for Windows
- When streaming HEVC over the Internet with certain setups, there may be intermittent grey frame corruption. Instead, utilize the AVC encoding option as a workaround.
