Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear franchise which has inspired countless gamers, may be the mastermind behind arguably the biggest game of the year: the January release of Annapurna’s highly anticipated “Lone Echo”. Twelve Minutes, an interactive thriller created by Lus António and released this week for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, recounts the tale of a man imprisoned in a time loop from a top-down viewpoint. It includes James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe as voice actors, all of whom are said to have pleased Kojima with how they brought the narrative of Twelve Minutes to life.
Kojima has been praising the game and promoting it to his millions of Twitter followers, calling it a fantastic game that can easily keep gamers engrossed for hours. The renowned designer stated that he hasn’t been as blown away by a game since Playdead’s hauntingly gorgeous puzzle platformer Inside.
Kojima went so far as to add that his experience with Twelve Minutes has “kinda [made him] want to make another adventure game,” which may be a hint as to what Kojima Productions will be working on next after Death Stranding in 2019 and the kind of works it will be influenced by. In any event, Hollywood celebrities will almost definitely be included, since the game creator seems to be obsessed with them.
