Until recently, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 20 series GPUs were considered the most powerful single-GPU mining GPUs on the market. However, a new mining program has shown up that has restored 70 per cent of the mining performance. This program was created by a developer who goes by the name of NBMiner. NBMiner software came out of nowhere to achieve this amazing feat and has made a lot of noise in the cryptocurrency mining community.
If you’ve been on the hunt for recently introduced LHR Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, you may have been a bit dismayed to find there isn’t that great of an upgrade in mining performance over the older Turing-based products. That’s because the older models utilized binary blobs that had been pre-compiled into the firmware while the newer models don’t. To make up for the difference, Lyrasoft developed a driver that modifies the mining firmware to allow the cards to use the blobs, which would normally be used for system-level tasks, in a mining-specific manner.
The recent NVIDIA GeForce RTX series of graphics cards were a massive success. Nvidia continued to push the envelope not only in terms of performance (with their Turing-based GPUs) but also in terms of price. With the introduction of the GeForce RTX 2070, 2080, and 2080 Ti, the company took the world by storm.

In May, NVIDIA released a new range of GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards with a 50 per cent reduction in mining performance due to a modified ETH hash rate. They were given the LHR (low hash rate) moniker in an effort to obtain more graphics cards for gamers rather than miners, who have reportedly been buying up large quantities of GPUs.
Unfortunately for NVIDIA (and gamers), the new anti-mining features introduced in the GeForce RTX 30 Series (except the GeForce RTX 3090) may no longer be effective.
According to a recent changelog, the creators of a piece of software called NBMiner have found out a method to bypass NVIDIA’s LHR clamp and recover about 70% of the ETH mining speed of the original GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards.
While it’s unclear how NBMiner’s creators got over NVIDIA’s limitations, miners may use the program to increase the hash rate of LHR GPUs and tweak it with different settings. The developers recommend that you set the tuning value to 68 since it has been shown to be stable on most systems.

- If -lhr is not set, LHR mode with -lhr 68 will be applied to LHR GPUs if specific GPUs are identified, even if -lhr is not set.
- Set -lhr to tune LHR mode; a particular number will instruct the miner to attempt to achieve a percentage of the maximum unlocker hashrate; for example, -lhr 68 will expect to obtain 68 percent of the hashrate for a non-LHR GPU of the same type.
- Greater -lhr values result in higher hashrate, but they also have a higher chance of locking up, resulting in significantly lower hashrate.
- The number 68 is an excellent place to start tweaking since it has been shown to be stable on most rig setups.
- The -lhr value for each GPU may be specified using a comma-separated list, such as -lhr 65,68,0,-1, where -1 indicates disable LHR mode.
