It’s no secret that Destiny 2 has objectively never been more accessible to the average user. With open-access play on all platforms and cross-game planned for later this year, it’s safe to say that we’re flooded with new Guardians more than ever. While, as always, there are helpful guides on which weapons are generally good and what to do to get your basic weapon, the average amateur will now go to the Crucible playlist knowing little about what to use to keep up with today’s meta-weapons. To combat this problem, this guide will consist of finding the right weapons for PvP, divided into 3 segments!
This manual consists of three parts :
Level 1: World/Playlist Drop Weapons
It is a weapon that can be launched via Strike, Crucible or Gambit and is available to all players, whether they are alone or in a clan! If you’re not sure what you’re looking for when you first enter the game, or if you’ve always given up on PvP and are only now getting into it because of this trial weapon, this section will prepare you to get a simple weapon that will serve you well.
Level 2: Targeted sources (middle of the game)
The sources of these weapons come from certain wedding activities (woe-altars, iron banner, etc.). You will not encounter them on your own and will have to take a detour to realize them, but the weapons that fall from them will reward your investment. While these activities are easier in groups, there are always individual ways to land weapons.
Level 3: Target resources (end of game)
At this level, weapons come either from PvP endgame activities (secret missions, raids) or from PvP endgame activities (Osiris trial). So far, none of the weapons require CSDs, but level 3 requires you to have access to all 3 CSDs and the ability to use the TFG for the group. If you are not used to playing the game out by finding a fireteam, if you are a single player or if you are new to the game, there are several ways to do this. Destiny 2 on PC has several LFG players and although I am not an Xbox player myself, I have been told that there is an in-game LFG system for these platforms.
One last note before you start the tutorial: regardless of bonuses and stats, weapons are very personal! If you find a weapon that suits you and allows you to get matches out of the crucible, use it, whether it’s the most powerful blue handgun you’ve ever seen. Furthermore, these levels do not indicate the value or effectiveness of the weapon, only how easy it is to obtain: some level 1 weapons may seem “better” than level 3 weapons, it is up to you to decide.
Level 1
Dollar down: pistol with empty hand, 120 RPM (Source: Gambit Contest Completion)
The end result is the potential loss at the end of each gambit game, whether you win or lose. The bonus pool is huge, with 12 potential bonuses in each main slot machine, but this works in the weapon’s favor, as it has many potentially useful bonuses. Power Madness + Rampage, Quickdraw + Initial Shot, Rangefinder + Initial Shot, Outlaw + Multikill Clip, or a combination of these bonuses gives you a slow but reliable pocket PvP gun that is pretty easy. But simple does not mean easy, as the drop rate for end-game weapons is quite low and is currently being diluted with other end-game weapons around the world.
Frozen track: Empty sniper, 72 revolutions per minute (Source: Crushing Match completion)
A frozen sphere falls the same way as a weak dollar, but can fall at the end of any part of the Crucible. Snipers with 72 RPM usually have poor control, so Quickdraw or Snapshot Visions are considered necessary by most members of the community. If you end up in a frozen lane with one of these advantages, it will be a strong and very powerful PvP sniper, although as you will see, aggressive snipers can feel slow and heavy compared to some of the other snipers on this list.
Retrofuturist : The Void Shotgun, 80 rpm (Bron : World Drops/Fire Gramophone Records)
The retrofuturist can do without a legendary Ingram, and while it may sound lame, don’t overlook it as a solid and reliable gun door. As a lightweight frame, it is more maneuverable, but Quickdraw remains an S-bonus for any retrofuturist. For second column bonuses, you can combine anything with Quickdraw, but for PvP, Snapshot Sight or Swashbuckler probably give you the best neutral game advantages. A full-power rifle is the best option for your barrel and magazine, and stringless ammo is the best option for your magazine bonus, although magazines don’t have much impact on the durability of PvP shotguns.
True Prophecy : Kinetic Hand Cannon, 120 rpm (Source : Worlddrops/Weapon Plates)
True Prophecy is an impressive set of desirable features, but its ceiling is firm. It will appear multiple times, and means that its power will be limited for the rest of Destiny 2 unless it is reissued in another form. While this will not affect the normal activity of the playlist, anything included in the achievement will eat away at the sunset, and it is strongly recommended that you do not use it in a competitive scenario. If you do manage to land True Prophecy, look for a jet with Opening Shot or Ranged in combination with Rampage, Explsoive Rounds or Timed Payload. Both roles can work well, but this is the role that gives the most consistent results.
Stars in the Shadows: Solar Pulse Rifle, 340 RPM (What: End of Scratch Match)
It may not seem like much, but Stars in Shadow will eat anyone who underestimated it and brought me to Lighthouse with their troops. Other weapons with a large Stars in Shadow advantage have the potential for incredible sequences like Firmly Planted + Headseeker, Killing Wind + Moving Target, Surplus + Demolitionist, and the incredible Outlaw + Kill Clip. If you see a drop in Stars in Shadow, don’t neglect it, because the time it takes to destroy high-impact pulse rifles should not be overlooked at all, and Stars in Shadow will likely be the easiest for you to achieve in the near future.
Xenoclast IV: bow gun, 80 rpm (Source: End of Strike)
The Xenoclast is odd in that even though it doesn’t work with Quickdraw, it remains a solid option with its varied set of benefits, and an easy frame for any entry-level shotgun. Interesting benefits include slide presentation/balls + lethal wind, overflow + demolition, or a self-loading holster roll. While the Xenoclast isn’t as long as other PvP rifles and doesn’t give the best results, it’s a strong, lightweight shotgun that gets the job done while you’re looking for something better.
Honorable mention:
Felwinter’s Lie: Solar Pistol, 55 RPM (Source: Lost Fire Monument, Exotic Archives)
No list of PvP weapons would be complete without mentioning Felwinter’s liege, but it can’t sustain its oppressive dominance over the competitive Crucible long enough to be considered a recommended option for many reasons. First, the shotgun expires at the end of the current season. So you have up to 3 months to complete the game of Osiris and the Iron Banner before the shotgun is no longer worth your energy. Second, it is guaranteed to be cheap thanks to its source in the Exotic Archive, but for the high price of an Ascension Shard, it may not be the cheapest for a novice player. Its Quickdraw + Opening Shot throws are unbeatable, and the shotpack bonus that gives it a solid spread means it’s one of the most consistent guns in Destiny 2 history, but when it comes to match options, it’s best not to get too used to it for too long.
Level 2
Palindrome: Empty handgun, 140 RPM (Source, Night: Perfect Completion *May need a CSD, depending on the week).
The Palindrome is a Destiny 1 classic, and while it’s no longer in the kinetic niche, it still offers some interesting options. Outlaw + Frenzy, Kill Wind + Rangefinder, Quickdraw + Rangefinder, even Overflow + Frenzy if you want a particularly playable one. His biggest hurdle is his drop source, as he only drops when it’s a rotating weapon in Nightfall: Hordal, and depending on the week it could be a move that requires DLC to own. However, if you own everything, Palindrome will be a consistent and powerful option, and the Adept version will be even more powerful if you venture into the Grandmaster’s ordeal.
Blasphemer : Kinetic Shotgun, 65 rpm (Bron : Altars of the Lunar Lament Event/Dungeon Heresy Pit)
Although there are technically two versions of Blasphemer, one with exclusive bonuses that only fall in the Shadowkeep dungeon and the other with generic bonuses, for PvP purposes you only have to worry about one throw: Quick Draw + Opening Shot. This roll can be obtained after completing the Altars of Pain public event in Lunar Harbor if the boss drops the shotgun that day, or when you find a party in the dungeon that rewards you with a new slug shotgun, however. These guns are not as easy to use as pellet guns, but their range is longer, and since they are in the kinetic slot, there are many weapons you can combine with the Slug Shotgun. As a bonus, as far as I know, Altars of Heresy and its weapon depots are free for all players, so even without access to Pit of Heresy, you can still get those weapons, whatever they are.
Fox Bite: Kinetic sniper rifle, 72 RPM (Source: end of Iron Banner/Iron Spinners game)
Bite of the Fox is the first Iron Banner weapon on the list and is a unique PvP ability with Kinetic Snapshot. Snapshot + Opening Shot will be a priority roll, but the weapon’s ability to create a Snapshot + Moving Target roll may be of interest to more mobile sniper rifle players. The only kinetic and aggressive sniper currently in the picture is behind the raid lock of Deep Stone Crypt from Beyond the Light, and while he is certainly a good PvP sniper, Bite of the Fox is much more accessible to the casual player.
Likes: Arc sniper rifle, 90 RPM (Source: Coving Own Way Quest)
The revered, if not unique, sniper is used by some players as their only sniper before sunset. It is based on more than just fans’ favorite sniper rifle.
Favourite, plays similarly; with immediate views and killer winds, Adoration is a consistent, if potentially cranky option. The quest doesn’t have to be difficult, but if you choose the Crucible path to get Adoration, you’ll need to gain some pistol shooting experience beforehand, but your efforts will be rewarded with the perfect match with any long-range kinetic weapon.
Steady Hand : Kinetic Hand Gun, 120 revolutions per minute (Source : Completion of Iron Banner/Tehton Turn match)
Steady Hand offers a solid, if slightly less powerful, alternative to True Prophecy after its fall at the end of this season. While Steady Hand has no bonus over its competitors, the pitch Outlaw + Swashbuckler offers some brutality, or my personal pocket spike: Quickdraw + Wellspring. The Quickdraw + Snapshot Sights also have their merits, but the main niche of the Steady Hand is simply a reliable kinetic weapon with 120 shots. It has a niche, and it fills it to great effect.
Exceptional upgrade: kinetic machine gun, 750 rpm (Source: Battlegrounds playlist / Selected Umbral Grams * Requires one season of ownership)
This exceptional update proved to be the first PvP-focused machine gun, and for good reason. Until recently, the survival rate of machine gun consoles was almost nil due to the barely controllable recoil, but with recent changes, the archetype has become a powerful pocket knife when shooting at short and medium range. Rendition Extraordinaire lives up to its name thanks to some unusual throws like Zen Moment + Tap the Trigger, Overflow + Multikill Clip/Rampage, and newcomer Frenzy. The SMG, while not possible on all maps, should not be neglected, and Extradition makes a strong case for it.
Guide Display: Kinetic Scout Rifle, 150 RPM (Source: Iron Banner/Yeton Turns Contest Completion)
Guiding Sight is a unique option for a relatively simple, yet incredibly deadly variant of scout sniper, with the right shot. Because it’s been missing from the meta for years, much of the player base has completely obliterated the scout rifle, but thanks to the way Guiding Sight works together with Iron Gaze, it won’t let you down. To be clear, Iron Gaze is a bonus that greatly increases aiming range (which translates into jargon as an aiming aid, not just for weapons), but thanks to the extreme range inherent in the Scout Rifle, Guiding Sight reaps all the benefits with almost no drawbacks, as Bungie has removed all the extreme range cards that would have used the lost range. If Guiding Sight comes at you for the Iron Banner, try it, because it might surprise you.
Alarm: Handbow gun, 140 rpm (Source: Activities in the City of Dreams/Trown of Thrones)
The Vigilance, a tried-and-true but incredibly deadly option, has returned this season in the form of a revamped hood, and remains a top-of-the-line handgun option for those who want it. While the division of bonuses between the dungeon and other activities is not entirely clear, the roles you will play in the hunt will be a random combination of Outlaw/Rapid Hit + Opening Shot/Kill Clip, depending on your play style. Quick Hit + Opening Shot is a much more important sequence, while Outlaw + Kill Clip provides lethality. As one of the few handguns with Outlaw + Kill Clip, Waking Vigil makes a strong case for getting this weapon. Furthermore, this weapon and the next one should be available to all players who reach Dream City!
Retold story : The Void Shotgun, 65 RPM (Quelle : activités de la Dream City / Dungeon on the Throne).
The resources and advantages of Retold Tale return with Waking Vigil, and are similar in terms of effectiveness and lethality. Even in its updated form, the shotgun can roll with full choke, projectiles, rapid fire and any number of bonuses in the second column. A good combo to look out for is Quickdraw + Killing Wind for an extra shot from a distance. When it comes to energy rifle options, Retold Tale is probably a preferred option for any serious rifle at the end of a PvP game.
Honorable mention:
Attack: kinetic hand cannon, 120 revolutions per minute (Source: Lost Fire Monument Exotic Archives)
Sturm gets an honorable mention because he needs a snippet for the exotic code, which must be purchased at the exotic booth, but the snippet is worth it (plus it’s available to all players!). Although Storm is exotic, he deserves his place in any aspiring Sentinel’s arsenal with his monstrous stat set, which is enhanced by his exotic catalyst. He may not be as striking as the Ace of Spades or the Thorn, but neither can gain 40 yards like Sturm. If you are looking for a non-dampening handgun with 120 rounds of ammunition, this is the one for you.
Level 3
Hawkmoon: Kinetic Hand Gun, 140 U/min (What: Quest Let Loose Thy Talons/Harbinger Mission *Contents of the hunting season – Demand Beyond Light: Deluxe Edition)
Hawkmoon has its strengths in the same places as Storm, with a few extra bonuses. First, the basic stats of the weapon itself are incredibly high and allow for a consistent match with just about anything. They can be improved by crushing them in the Harbinger mission for randomly rolled Hawkmoons, although this is best done with a group of 3 people. Second, the Paracausal Shot Perk forces the user to make his shots as good as possible, making it an ideal tool for training head shots. A well-spent Hawkmoon never falls into the water, and that immediately puts it at the top of the list for many people. That means you should purchase a Hawkmoon if you have the DLC to get the job done, or if you bought it last season and never used it.
Supremacy: Kinetic sniper rifle, 140 rpm (Source: Latest optional raid * Requires Destiny 2: Survivor)
For many people, supremacy is a tried and true sniper’s rifle. Supremacy has been in play for years and has reached ever higher power maxes up to 1410, combined with an incredibly low number of bonuses. Snapshot is a given, and most bonuses in the second column will be good, although interesting things can be done with Kill Clip or Rampage.
Voorbode : Void Rifle Pulse, 340 RPM (Bron : Dungeon of the Heretic Pit * Requiert Destiny 2 : Shadowhunter)
The Premonition, which recently returned to us with an updated performance capsule, is a long-range option for a powerful impulse rifle with one-piece wheels. Gobble Rage + Headseeker/Rampage, Moving Target + Headseeker, Zen Moment + Headseeker are all good options, and because they are in the energy slot, the kinetic slot is freed up for special weapons or exotic weapons. Premonition remains one of my favorite weapon options.
Erfenis: Kinetic Shotgun, 65 RPM (Bron: Raid of the Deep Stone Crypt * Vereist Destiny 2: Beyond Light)
Not only is the legacy absolutely magnificent, but the consistency and feel compensate for the somewhat difficult path of acquisition. He can’t throw a Quickdraw, but the Snapshot Sights/Reconstruction throw allows him, in the same situations as the Felwinter, to arrive before the enemy is within spitting range and maintain that with the extra range of his machine gun fire.
Héritage : Kinetic Sniper Rifle, 72 RPM (Bron : Deep Crypt Raid * Requiert Destiny 2 : Beyond the Light)
The slow but powerful successor manages to put on a good show, offering a kinetic sniper with 72 revs and unique benefits. The sights in the second column mean that there is room in the first column for bonuses such as Moving Target and Sliding Paths, or even Killing Wind for a higher speed of target search. While it can be unwieldy, continuity will easily knock out anyone you throw it at, provided you hit the target.
Guardian : Solar Scout rifle, 260 rpm (Source : Raid of the Deep Crypt * Requiert Destiny 2 : Beyond Light)
The administrator is an amazingly powerful option that makes up for lost time by being both incredibly forgiving and consistent. The combinations of benefits are unlimited: Surplus + Source, Recover + Redirect, Recover + Initial Shot, Zen Momentum + Initial Shot, or Zen Momentum + High Strike Reserves. As a faster-firing scout rifle, it is fully automatic, so you can pull the trigger as many times as you like. If Scout Rifle shots are requested as rewards in PvP, expect to get a lot of them.
Holy Source: Kinetic Impulse Gun, 450 RPM (Source, “Garden of Redemption” *Gets Destiny 2: Shadow Vault)
Aggressive pulse rifles are known for their power, and Holy Origin is no different. The small bonus reserve and lethal bonuses combined with the large barrel are the only reason the weapon is not a natural for pulse rifle users. The biggest bonus is the Rapid Hit + Kill Clip combo, although any combo is great when the kill time is so relaxed. If you have such a gun, take advantage of the great range and give it a try!
Omniscient Eye : Solar Sniper Rifle, 140 RPM (Source, “Garden of Salvation” *Interests Destiny 2 : Shadowhunter).
While nothing special, the Omniscient Eye deserves a mention for its small reserve of bonuses and its equally enjoyable experience. While snipers drop sources for 140 rpm performance, the Omniscient Eye offers a unique shooting experience unlike most Veist sniper rifles, which are the archetypal 140 rpm rifle, and with a snapshot, you can’t go wrong. Whereas sniper fire relies largely on the senses of many, the Omniscient Eye could be your new deadly machine gun.
Igneus Hammer: solar-powered hand cannon, 120 revolutions per minute (Source: Osiris Tests).
The Igneous Hammer, the first of the two Osiris weapon monsters on the list, is the ultimate for many PvP players. A 120-gun handgun with good range, a large magazine, and a delightfully small number of reliable combos that complement the archetype make the Igneous Hammer the obvious choice for the 120-gun weapon. These combos include Quick Hit + Rampage, Outlaw + Rampage, Quick Hit + One for All, and Killing Wind + Moving Target. If you manage to get the Adept version, take advantage of the extra stats that come with mastering this weapon, as it will be your first choice for the Aggressive Frame hand cannon for the next year in PvP.
Messenger: Kinetic Impulse Gun, 340 revolutions per minute (Source: Osiris trials)
The highly effective pulse rifle in the Kinetic Box immediately puts the Herald at the top of many newcomers’ list, but the reasons for its appeal only increase as you wander through the bonuses. While the second column contains some good options like “Kill Clip” and “Headseeker,” the first bonus is “Desperado”; a bonus that increases the rate of fire after reloading a precision shot. Although I could describe this bonus myself, I prefer not to do so
Describe. (TattooedFox Credit) Outlaw + Desperado or Rapid Hit + Desperado is absolutely the solution with Envoy, and if you decide to try it out this weekend, you’ll be happy to know that Saint-14 is currently offering Envoy as a reward, so get it while you can!
Footnote: Where are the heavy weapons?
Answer: it’s very simple! Take a machine gun, grenade launcher or machine gun and use it! Some people prefer certain strictures like the Wardcliff roll or The Colony, but I think the best stricture is the one that suits you best. Trying to force yourself to use something just because someone says it’s good defeats the purpose of this guide, and it’s better to find one that gives you the edge.
Closing Remarks
Well, that was a lot of information! Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t worry, the guide is designed with a multi-level system in mind: if you think you’ve mastered a level 1 weapon, you can move on to level 2 weapons, and so on.
Although it is designed for new players, it can be applied to anyone, and even better if you can do something with it. If the answer is yes, I can design one for PvE, but for now, have fun!
2020 will satisfy both classic and modern players. To be included in the list, a game must be confirmed for 2020, or there must be a good reason to expect its release this year. Upcoming games with a simple announcement and no significant release date are therefore not included in the list.
By 2020, there will be a lot of… In the world of video games. Here are fifteen games we’re looking forward to in the first half of 2020.
