Atomic Games was the first to announce this game in 2009. Six Days in Fallujah is a first-person tactical shooting game based on real events – Fallujah is a city in Iraq that was captured by the US military in late 2004. Victura will be released by Highwire Games on PC (Steam) and consoles later this year (no details yet). Many people on the team have already worked on Halo and Destiny.
Sometimes the only way to understand what is true is to experience reality itself. War is full of uncertainties and difficult decisions that are impossible to understand by watching someone on television or in the movies make those decisions for you. Video games can help us understand real-world events in a way that other media cannot, said former Sergeant Eddie Garcia, who was wounded in the battle of Fallujah and came up with the original idea for Six Days in Fallujah in 2005.
It’s hard to know what the struggle really looks like when the wrong people are doing the wrong things in the wrong places. This generation has shown more remarkable dedication and courage in Iraq than any other generation in history. And now they offer us all a new way to understand one of the most important events of our century. It’s time to challenge outdated stereotypes about what video games can be, added Peter Tamte, CEO of Victura.
Here’s anevaluation of Victora Six Days in Fallujah: The second battle for Fallujah began in 2004 after Al Qaeda took control of one of Iraq’s largest cities. This battle proved to be the worst military conflict for Western forces since 1968. Atomic Games announced Six Days in Fallujah in 2009, but after a controversy over video games’ ability to handle complex real-world events, the original publisher dropped the title. Victura is a publishing and production company founded in 2016 by Peter Tamte, former CEO of Atomic Games, to bring gamers the new Six Days in Fallujah and other games based on true stories.
Working with Marines and frontline soldiers who fought in the battle of Fallujah, Vikura and Highwire spent three years developing unique gameplay technology and mechanisms that bring players closer to the uncertainty and modern combat tactics than any other video game. More than 100 Iraqi Marines, soldiers and civilians who were present at the second battle of Fallujah shared their personal stories, photos and videos with the development team. The game gives voice to these stories through gameplay and first person narration, filmed in original documentary interviews. Six Days in Fallujah strives to be the most truthful of all military recordings, telling these military and civilian stories with the honesty they deserve. More details about Six Days in Fallujah will be announced in the coming weeks, Victura said.
Six Days in Fallujah will be out later this year on Steam and consoles.
