Despite all the talk and memories of Dark Souls – one of the most complex game series of all time – it could be a scary franchise.
But the truth is that dark souls are just ruthless.
And unlike really violent and impossible games, it’s only fair – every time you die, it’s probably on you.
With this in mind, the complexity can be reduced if you are prepared and know what to look for. In this list, we look at some tips and tricks that can help you get started!
15 Essential Dark Souls 3 Tips & Tricks
15. Don’t be greedy.
The important thing for me is not to overdo it.
During a fight, it can be very easy to try to throw an extra punch, but then your stamina runs out or you can’t dodge the next attack and you get flattened.
So practice – especially against the bosses. Determine how many seizures you can handle during their recovery and plan accordingly.
14. Roll, do not block.
Dark Souls 3 came out after Bloodborne, and it’s often said that FromSoftware was inspired by its deviant combat.
Unlike DS1, the block in this game is …. low.
Blocking attacks takes a lot of stamina unless you’re using a big screen, and if you have a broken guard, you’re probably dead.
Conversely, just driving costs a fixed amount of stamina, gets you i-frames and gets you out of danger.
Blocking isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just much, much more situational than in previous games and it shouldn’t be within your reach.
13. Early exercise
At the top of the Firelink temple is a tower with a locked door that would normally require 20,000 souls to enter, which is interesting for a more average play point.
But if you are patient, there is a small tree next to the lower roof from which you can jump diagonally, so you can reach some of these delights in advance.
There’s a crystal lizard, a shard of Estus, but most importantly, a greedy silver snake ring that, when equipped, increases your soul’s profit by 10%!
This will make your first game much more enjoyable, with more levels and the ability to buy more consumables.
12. Chest chain
Mimicry is very common in DS3, there are a dozen of them in the world!
Fortunately, the old trick comes from the first part of Dark Souls, and the proof is the chains you’ll find attached to the right side of each chest.
Real safes have chains that turn. The facial expression chains are straighter and point more forward.
With this knowledge, you won’t get burned!
11. Explore everywhere
There are many hidden nooks and crannies in the world, many of which are easy to overlook.
When you explore, you have to take all possible paths until you reach a kind of dead end.
Some extra routes may contain powerful equipment and consumables – or even a hidden boss or NPC!
10. Paris
I’m sure I’m not the first to tell you this, but the parade is very important.
You can completely take out most of the strongest enemies you face with a timely parry, allowing you to fire at sections.
It even works on a handful of bosses!
And if you’re going to play PvP, you should start training now.
It’s a risky move and very rewarding, but it causes the most devastating battle damage in the entire game.
And that makes you uncomfortable.
9. Always carry a flashlight with you
DS3 has introduced a very unwanted new mechanic:
The larvae.
If you are hit or attacked by an infected enemy, your body will be covered in tons of beautiful, twisted maggots.
Like a poison, the larvae slowly accumulate in the bloodstream over time, causing massive damage once they are too late.
And the best (and cheapest) way to remove them is with a flashlight!
When you replace the rocket, the little parasites fall off you, so you don’t bleed constantly.
Unlike red foam, it is free, unobstructed and easily accessible. When approaching an infested enemy, it is recommended that you place a flashlight in one of the weapon slots.
8. Not bad.
A common phrase I hear when new players take a DS3 is: Why play Detox?
And of course, if you look at him with nothing but outerwear and a mace, plus other options like a fully clothed knight, he can come across as pure rigor.
But hardship is actually a fantastic choice for players without great physics.
It gives 10 in all stats, which is great, and has the lowest soul level of 1, which makes each subsequent level cheaper for the rest of the game, thanks to the way the level prices are calculated!
When we make love, it’s not always the best choice. However, with an average loss, this aspect should not be overlooked.
7. Disaster recovery
Many players will find themselves in the middle of a fight or a difficult encounter with the final boss and not be able to just assume that death is near.
But never say never!
There are a number of healing options that may not be immediately obvious.
If you are not in Estonia and are in trouble, dig into your invention – looking for the Siegbrau or divine blessings – even eels will cure you completely if you are not already enchanted!
6. End all dialogues
Every FromSoftware game has a habit of not letting a character’s quest progress until you’ve heard everything he has to say.
When talking to NPCs, talk to them over and over again until they start repeating themselves – even when talking to the vendors.
This classifies them as interactive and allows them to evolve – moving to new locations if necessary.
5. Initial levels compared with gross infusion
If you’ve seen our list of best dyes, you know what I’m going to say.
The Strength/Dex level at the beginning of the game will barely affect the DPS of your weapon.
Unless you want to meet the minimum weapon requirements, it’s best to build up your strength or stamina to get extra HP/stamina and use the raw potion.
Raw potions take the balance out of the weapon, but give a ton of extra damage to the base!
If your funeral gift was a fire bead, it would be perfect. But if you decide otherwise, you can get a rough gem from a crystal lizard in the middle of the High Wall of Lorraine.
4. Double axle reduces strength requirements
As for stats, you can save yourself from a bunch of first levels by using any weapon you want all together!
The double plug multiplies your power by 1.5 times and can give you the extra points you need to wield the weapon of your choice.
It has the added benefit of being more damaging, as two-handed films tend to produce more juice.
3. Single/free infusions
When you look at the infusion screen, it can be easy to ignore the simple and blissful settings because they default to scale and belief and may not apply to your construction.
But don’t ignore these infusions!
Simple infusions provide a slow regeneration of FP and a blessed regeneration of HP when equipped.
For devices you don’t want to attack, scaling means nothing!
Scaling is only applicable when something is damaged. So, unless you intend to swing or parry with your shield, you should give it a simple brew or a blessed infusion.
Simplicity allows you to spam these weapon skills a bit more, and wounded can make the difference between life and death.
2. Good fire
The fire in DS3 is a tangible element. It has far greater advantages than elements like darkness or lightning – especially early in the game.
The fire scares off many enemies, giving you time to strike – and often kill them before they can react!
Not only does it foil the angry dogs, but it also eliminates the worst enemies, stuns the Egg-Man and inflicts extra damage on Gandyr!
Therefore, don’t neglect firebombs or burial goods.
The first parts of the game are child’s play – and they will come in handy later.
1. Breath – unsalted
Well, it’s certainly easier said than done.
Don’t bend over. Don’t be angry. Don’t get salty.
Even with all the help in the world, Dark Souls is a hard game! And if you make a mistake, he will punish you for it.
If you die, even wrongfully, breathe. Think of it as a learning experience and don’t do it again.
The last thing you should do is rush headlong into the same situation that just killed you and lose all your souls before you can find them again.
Everyone dies in Dark Souls – even someone like me, with over 5000 hours of franchise! So keep a cool head and play it safe.
If you’re really high, you can always take five and come back later.
