Yesterday (Monday, January 3rd) Hades – Roguelike Hell on Consoles became the latest roguelike game to arrive on a console device. It’s a game of permadeath and rapid-fire combat, where you must fight your way through a series of levels to reach the final boss. It is developed by Vlambeer and launched on Steam for PC and Mac, but the console version is being ported by Square Enix to the PS4 and PS Vita.

Hades once again finds itself at the heart of a gaming controversy. The question is not if Hades 2 will be released on consoles. The argument is whether Hades 2 should be released on consoles.

The Rise of Free-to-Play Online Games

April 9, 2025

Hades is a new roguelike game from indie developer Owlboy , which has just been released on consoles. Hades is a throwback to the classic roguelikes of the past, like X-Com or Dungeon Master. It is also the first roguelike game to be created for consoles, which means that there are unique challenges that console players will have to overcome to enjoy this game to its fullest.. Read more about hades game and let us know what you think.

OVERVIEW – After winning so many accolades that even The Last of Us 2 and Ghosts of Tsushima were rattled, Supergiant Games’ newest masterpiece, Hades, has finally found its way to consoles. It seemed inevitable that Zagreus’ tale would come to next-gen Xboxes and Playstations after a brilliant premiere on PC and Nintendo Switch.

At last year’s Games Prizes, Hades earned the first statuette in both the Best Indie and Best Game of the Year categories, but went on to win awards in the main category at following events. Since its early access debut, a period that lasted approximately a year in the start of its popularity, the Californian team’s product has demonstrated rock-solid foundations, which were cemented by the advent of the final edition.

When your father is a god of the underworld, you have a lot of responsibilities as a parent.

For those of you who have been hibernating for the past few months and have no idea what we’re talking about, or who, more realistically, haven’t been able to try Hades on PC and Nintendo Switch while waiting for it to arrive on consoles, the time has finally come to inhale the scent of the underworld’s sulphur. The roguelike dungeon crawler from the developers of Bastion, Pyre, and Transistor wowed us with its engaging gameplay, fast-paced narrative, and flawless visuals back in September.

As Zagreus, the son of Hades, the god of the underworld, it is our mission to liberate ourselves from Tartarus in order to learn more about our ancestors and to escape the shackles that bind us to the afterlife’s ghosts and unhappy souls. To succeed, we’ll need great reflexes and a lot of patience to escape from the depths of hell, and failures will punctuate our escape efforts against all kinds of monsters and four major bosses.

Drama in Greek

Tragedies, drama, and various forms of familial dysfunction abound in Greek mythology, and Hades delivers on all of them. The player assumes the role of Zagreus, Hades’ son, who wishes to escape his father’s subterranean kingdom and go to Olympus. Zagreus is assisted by his foster mother Nyx, as well as many other Greek gods. Of course, Hades opposes this and attempts to stop Zagreus from reaching Olympus. Rather than trying to up his fatherly game and persuade his son to stay in the underworld, he is so enraged by his son’s refusal to follow in his footsteps that he unleashes all of the underworld’s horrors to stop Zagreus from progressing, where Zagreus dies many times over despite all of the other gods’ blessings. It’s unclear why Zagreus desires to escape the underworld, but flashbacks reveal more information as the game continues.

When Dad has a rough day, the family comes to his aid.

Our relatives, on the other hand, are more caring than our father and are more likely to assist us in our endeavors by giving us presents that improve our offense, special attack, evading, or throwing. You can construct some pretty cool builds by mixing various abilities, which is one of the aspects that makes this game potentially infinitely replayable. While the gameplay is enjoyable, slaying enemies with a sword, bow, or shield isn’t the only reason to play Hades.

Progressing through the various chambers of the four worlds is also beneficial in accomplishing additional objectives inside the game and developing deeper connections with people in order to discover truths that have been hidden from us for years. There are lots of hidden locations for gamers looking for a challenge, and unlocking rooms and different objects can net you jewels and diamonds to add to your collection. In terms of gameplay, our experience on Xbox Series X is the same, but Hades’ optimization for next-gen consoles has totally enthralled us, to the point where we believe we’re in for a whole new experience. Forget about Nintendo’s early issues; Supergiant Games’ two new flagship games are absolutely perfect. Hades shines in 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on the new-generation Sony and Xbox systems. At the same time, last-generation hardware maintains the same frame rate, although the resolution on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles is only 1080p.

We’re starting to get back into the flow of things.

Many games nowadays are jam-packed with tutorials that take an eternity to get into the action and are designed as if they were created for individuals who have never played a video game before. Fortunately, Hades is immune to this affliction. It recognizes itself as the kind of game it is: a straightforward action roguelike in which the player rushes into combat with a variety of assaults, dies, and then returns a bit stronger to attempt again. Zagreus uses basic melee attacks as well as a few unique techniques that change based on the weapon he’s wielding. We battle the underworld in randomly created chambers while attempting to remain alive, with various prizes at the end of each level.

The chambers are crawling with creatures attempting to keep you from reaching Charon, and it’s standard procedure to kill all of the opponents in one level before moving on to the next. It’s a straightforward recipe that doesn’t bring much to the table, but the execution is flawless. Enemy spawn spots and traps are put up in each room to test the player, yet even in the most congested areas, the situation does not seem hopeless. Hades is a really difficult game, but one in which the player attempts “one more go” over and over again after each death.

Hades was a dream come true for me.

The fighting is fluid, the colors pop with this new design, and each area is a pleasure to explore without experiencing any performance issues. Aside from the great performance, the new generation’s main drawback is that you can’t move saves from your PC or Switch to consoles since cross-save isn’t supported. This is to be anticipated, since this feature isn’t yet commonplace in games (it’s only available in a few titles). We anticipated not to be able to continue the efforts to leave the underworld that started last year on Xbox and PlayStation, but it does offer us a chance to enjoy the initial moments of stepping foot in Hades’ terrible home again.

To borrow a Greek metaphor, this accomplishment elevates the Californians to Olympus among the developers. With this coming to consoles, the Hades releases are likely finished (with at most one more Stadia release on the way), and now everyone can look forward to a potential sequel — though Supergiant Games has yet to confirm on this.

Whether the team is working on a new game or a potential sequel, Zagreus and his thirst for vengeance will undoubtedly make the wait more bearable.

In the 16 years since the first console games appeared, the games industry has seen many new genres introduced. The most recent is Roguelike, a combination of dungeon crawler and role-playing game. These games take modern gamers back to a time when we had to collect our items, solve puzzles, and kill off monsters to advance in the game..
