Sony has officially announced that PlayStation 4 is coming to PC. The game giant also confirmed that there won’t be any PC versions of PS4 games for at least 3-4 years. Ironically, this announcement comes about 2 years after Microsoft announced that Xbox One would be coming to PC.
Sony has announced plans to stop supporting the PC version of the PlayStation 3, with no word on when the port will be removed. This news comes just a few days after Microsoft announced they’d be pulling support for the Xbox 360 in January 2017, leaving many to wonder why Sony would do this.

Sony has started to win over PC players as a result of its recent move to transfer some of its most popular PlayStation exclusives to the PC platform. However, the company’s newfound generosity can only go so far.
Guerrilla Titles alum Hermen Hulst discussed Sony’s choice to distribute PlayStation games on the PC platform in a recent interview with Game Informer on his current job as director of PlayStation Studios.
While the executive acknowledged that the new business model has been a “wonderful success,” Hulst emphasized that the console versions are still the priority in Sony’s eyes, and that PC players shouldn’t get their hopes up about being able to play PlayStation exclusives anytime soon.
In the interview, Hulst said, “Typically, there has been approximately two years between the release on our platform and the PC platform,” implying that PC players would have little option but to purchase a PlayStation 5 system if they want to play future blockbusters like Horizon Forbidden West first.
“[…] It’s critical for us to get the most out of the platform, to create showcases for the platform, and to show the audience how these wonderful features contribute to the entire experience,” Hulst said.
So far, Sony Interactive Entertainment has introduced two games to the PC platform that were formerly exclusive to PlayStation 4 consoles. Horizon Zero Dawn by Guerrilla Games and Days Gone by Bend Studio will be published on August 7, 2020 and May 18, 2021, respectively.
The newest edition of Naughty Dog’s action-adventure series, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, is believed to be one of the next titles Sony will release to the PC.
Sony has managed to remain on top of its game, and Hulst wants to continue that trend. He adds, “We’re expanding PlayStation Studios.” “We’re investing in our incredible teams. We’re on the lookout for fresh developers. We will continue to prioritize quality. We continue to place a premium on experiences that, in my opinion, matter – and that, in certain cases, could only have been produced by us. That’s what I’m all about. And I’ll make certain that we continue to make them.”

The last few years have seen a dramatic shift where the PlayStation 4 has become the default game console for many PC gamers. To them, the PlayStation 4 is the go-to console and PC gaming on PC is now considered a niche solution. Even before the PlayStation 4 was released, Sony had moved its focus to the PlayStation 4 rather than PC gaming, and this has been a trend for the past several years. The console has seen tremendous success, and Sony seems to have no plans to change how they approach the console and PC gaming space..
